I remember sitting in front of my incubator and asking the stupidest question a startup owner could ask - “What if they listen to my idea and start something like mine?”
This happened back in 2015 when I hardly knew anything about entrepreneurship.
He told me, “Even if they do, where will they get the execution? Even if they execute, where will they get the obsession towards your industry? "
That’s when I realized maybe I am not obsessed with my industry and barely know the problem I am solving.
If I could, I would honestly tell the incubator that the only problem I am interested in solving is my finance through this startup.
In 2023, I now realize what obsession with the industry and a problem feels like.
One thing during this journey I realized is that ideas are bullshit. Anyone can develop a billion $ ideas and tell the world how smart they are.
The obsession creates repetitions—doing one thing and only one thing for 10+ years.
We live in an attention-deficit economy. We, as a business, will be competing with so many influencers, creators, and entertainers on the same platform.
How can you even decide if something works without doing it 365 times for 365 days?
I have often heard entrepreneurs saying SEO doesn’t work after putting in 35 posts or Instagram engagement doesn’t work after putting in 70-80 random posts.
The repetition of the same thing with a few experiments matters the most.
We used to live in a world where if you come up with a great product and nothing can stop you. Not in this attention-deficit market.
You must put in the reps to make your product/service visible in the market.
In short, My point is - Ideas are worth 0$.
Our empty minds will keep sending us brilliant ideas.
Don’t chase after every idea. Instead, focus on refining only high-quality ideas.
Something you don’t mind doing for 10+ years, even if it doesn’t get recognized by anyone.
